How many mg of iron should a child take?
Infants 1 to 12 months of age have a RDA for iron of 2 mg/kg per day
Toddlers 1 to 3 years of age have a RDA for iron of 7 mg/day.
Children 4 to 8 years of age have an RDA of 10 mg per day
Psychological development can be delayed in infants and toddlers who don't get enough iron. They may have short attention spans and withdraw socially. In addition to fatigue, cold hands and feet, pale skin, slow growth, and poor appetite, behavioral problems may also occur.
